Being ill in Malta
It started Friday night. A cough and catarre. It got worse during Saturday and by Sunday I decided to see a doctor - just in case. Contacted travel insurers and in the end was booked in to see a doctor Monday afternoon. Turned in was in a town miles away so I had to take a taxi. He had just been told to drop me in the centre so I was left to find the place myself. I was just about on time but had to wait in the waiting room for some time. The was only an elderly gentleman in there and not another soul in sight. When the doctor finally called me in I found he spoke good English and had such a relaxed air it was if he had all the time in the world to sit and talk to me. He took my details, made a note of my existing medications and did a few tests. He apologised but said since he had no knowledge of my medical history he could only offer some simple solutions. A nasal spray for the catarre, cough mixture for the cough and antihistamine in case it was a form of hay fever. All very understandable. Got back and took a first dose of each, Next day I had a rushed breakfast as I was booked to go on a trip. Joining instructions said pick up 9.10 from front of hotel so I was there of 9 am. I waited and waited and at ten to ten I had had enough and went back to my room. Probably just as well I didn't get pick up as I had been in such a rush I hadn't realised that I could fell my blood pounding in my ears and I was feeling a bit peculiar. Read the side effects for all the medications and decided in the end not to take any of them as my symptoms match a couple of the possible side effects. Spent the rest of the morning resting and drinking lots of water. Fortunately the Jet2 ref called in the afternoon and he was able to book me on my tour for Friday.
